Acupuncture is one of the world’s oldest medical treatments, first practiced in China approximately 3,000 years ago. In the past 40 years, acupuncture has gained immense popularity due to its effectiveness for pain relief and other conditions.
Acupuncture is a non-pharmacological therapy that utilizes thin, solid, single-use, metallic needles. The needles are inserted into the skin at specific anatomical regions, called acupuncture points. Acupuncture initiates a positive biochemical response within the brain, muscles, and spinal cord.
Acupuncture’s direct effect on the central nervous system stimulates muscle relaxation, resulting in decreased activity in areas of the brain associated with stress and illness. This improves regulation of certain hormones, which helps modulate and stimulate the parasympathetic system in the brain associated with rest, relaxation, improved digestion, and tissue healing.
Essentially, acupuncture helps inform the body to do something - relieve inflammation that is causing pain, lower blood pressure, improve digestion, reduce cortisol, etc. Our providers customize and create a specific treatment plan for each patient. The treatment plans are based on the individual’s symptoms and health history.
Throughout each acupuncture treatment it is our goal to make sure you are comfortable, feel relaxed, and have a safe space to reconnect with your body in order to heal and thrive!
Each acupuncture treatment has 3 main goals:
1. Relieve pain and other symptoms
2. Strengthen the immune system
3. Balance and harmonize the proper functioning of the internal organs, making for a happy, healthy, and thriving person!
