Cosmetic acupuncture has been used for centuries in China by Emperors and the wealthy. Cosmetic acupuncture is a relatively non-invasive procedure that provides great results that go beyond just healthier looking skin - it also helps you feel younger! Not only do the treatments work on improving wrinkles and skin issues, but the protocols are also based on Chinese medicine and balancing the entire body during each treatment.
Mei Zen is based on Chinese medicine. From a Chinese medicine standpoint, the treatment is working on balancing your body’s “qi” energy, therefore improving your general health.
The appearance of the skin is a manifestation of the state of your overall health. From a Western medicine perspective, when needles are placed into the dermis/second layer of the skin, these create micro-traumas in the skin. The body perceives these micro-traumas as an injury and signals fibroblast cells to be released. Fibroblast cells produce collagen and elastin, and these cells are sent to the face to repair the micro-traumas. This immune-modulating response boosts collagen and elastin in the face, resulting in a reduction of wrinkles, improved complexion, and an appearance of a natural facial lift.
Mei Zen requires 10 treatments. So, 2x a week for 5 weeks or 1x a week for 10 weeks. Both facial and body points are used to create a balance and dynamic treatment. After the initial 10 sessions, patients can come in every 6-8 weeks for maintenance treatments. Initial results can last up to 10 years.
